the allison only comes behind the 6.6L and the 8.1L. does not come behind the 6.0L. the 6.0L uses 4L65E's in half ton trucks and 4L80E's in 3/4 ton trucks including the 1500HD which is just a 3/4 badged as a 1500 series for marketing purposes.

The Allison is only available behind the Duramax or the 8.1L Vortec. Those engines are available only in 2500 chassis.

There is no Diesel or bigblock half-ton configuration.

Also, all Duramaxes with automatic transmission will be the Allison 1000

All 8.1s with autos will have the Allison 1000 except the 2500 Chevy Suburban or Yukon XL with the 8.1 or any 2500 Avalanche which get the 4L85-E.

All Allison 1000 in 2005 model year and prior in these trucks are 5-speed. All Allison 1000's in them for 2006 are 6-speed.

Someone I know was so sure his 2500 Suburban with the 8.1 had an Allison that I had to sit there and wait while he called the idiot dealer to find someone to verify it. (That took 3 phones calls and 10 minutes of hold time, eventually we got "4L80-E". Idiots...) He had bet me a sandwich and I bet him my LIFE and he still didn't believe me.

A 6.0 will bolt right to a Ally. But I would not wast my time with it. The Ally will suck to much power for a 6.0 to deal with. And as Parish has shown a 4L80E will hold anything that a 6.0 can make.
I might have to drop my Ally for a 4L80E.

I did not copy/paste that. It was from memory. I'm not an idiot and actually know how to read the side of a transmission, but under the truck that side is covered with a heat shield. I thought it was a thorough and proper response.
