5.7l Vortec performance upgrades
whats some good bolt ons for a vortec 5.7l? i got one. it misses and this stuff gives me a reason to pull it apart n put some good stuff on it. all info appreciated.

Hey man i am right there with you... best things if its bone stock are catback, CAI, and headers. You have to get it breathing first then you can go with the more expensive and in depth projects, like cam and tune and some 4.10's out back.

a cam would be a good choice, but im not sure what gen motor that is. I know its not a Gen III, but i dont know the difference between the GEN 1 and 2 motors. If anyone knows please chime in.

If my understanding of what is commonly discussed is correct, Gen II engines are the LT1/LT4 Corvette/F-body/ImpalaSS engines with reverse cooling and optispark ignition, but otherwise very similar to your standard Gen I small block Chevy (SBC). The 1996 5.7L Vortec engine has different heads that would require different intake than your run of the mill Gen I SBC, but otherwise everything would be interchangeable. (I think)

The L35 S10 V6 torque converter is the same as what the the 1999 and up NBS guys do with a trailblazer converter.
behind my bolton L31, I get a stall of 2500 rpm.
Its worth a at least a tenth in the 60ft, and a couple tenths in the 1/4. itsa nice gain for cheap.

The L31 was made from 1996-2005. 96-99 in trucks up to 2001 in vans and up to 2005 in the heavy commercial trucks.

I highly recomend getting some good custom programming. with the proper programming and a 160º thermostat, there is alot of power to be had. I also highly recomend using the L35 torque converter. With some mild bolt on's including exhaust, L35 converter, Zippy shift kit, Zippy Performance programming, 160º thermostat, and 275/50/17" Nitto's, i was able to get a customer's Tahoe to run a 15.2 in the quarter. With me in the truck the Tahoe weighed in at 4937lbs. This was with a stock paper air filter and a slight headwind. In the right weather with the later added CAI and a bit more tuning the heavy pig would have been able to make it into the 14's for sure.
