Default Stock cam choices in LM7

I have been reading for a while now and trying to soak up all the information that is available here. My 2000 Siverado is all stock (right now) with almost 225,000 miles on it. I just checked compression and all of the cylinders are above 175 with a few above 180. they all gain about 10 psi with a wet test.
I drive over 60 miles each way to work, so MPGs ARE a consideration, but I would like to pick up a little more torque in the midrange when passing those annoying rice burners on the hills.

My question... is there any noticeble gain in torque with a stock Camaro or Corvette cam for a LS1 versus an aftermarket cam? I plan on stepping up to an aftermarket cam and higher compression and a tune with my next engine. Until then (maybe a year) I still would like a little more out of this engine without streesing it too much. I am not looking at changing valve springs or any other mods at this time. Is that a waste of my time? please chime in, there are LOTS of wrecking yards around here where I can get a stock type cam for cheap.

i would spend the cash on a entery level stall like a circle d 3000-3200 . after i did my stall my passing power was night a day . soon as u step on it your rpms will jump right up in the power band it also helped half throttle passings to. also u will need a tune with the stall but the tune will help with power also . get a vette sero and new trans filter while your at it .

Thanks, that was all part of the plan when I do the engine/trans in the future. I was just looking for a band aid until then. I can deal with the stock performance, if necessary until then. Just don't have the time to do any major work right now. Pulling the trans to change the TQ is more than I want to deal with right now.

none yet. plans are cold air intake, electric fans and exhaust upgrade. This is my DD and so I am looking for "just a little more". Since my mpg is over 20 (best is 22.5) if I keep out of the powerband, I would like to pick up a little more torque where I spend most of the time, 2000 to 3000 rpm. Especially since I haul or tow occasionally.

I would do the boltons that you can transfer to the next setup, before putting another stock cam in your current engine.

I would start with the basics you have listed first. a tune to optimise what you have done after that will also make a difference. If your still not happy, I would recommend a small cam shaft from a sponser over that of a factory cam. A factory LS1 cam is not really designed for the gain your looking for.

Your other option would be to have a stock cam reground to get a little more out of it. This is from smoke m up . com so you can get a basic idea of what your working with.

If this info is correct the lq9 cam, or early Fbody cam would be a decent choice. I wouldn't stick anything more than low .500'' lift on 200K mile lifters.

The Sokemup.com site is where I got the idea from. Just wondering if the early F body or 6.0 cam would help, since a stock cam would be cheap and not push the limits on my worn engine. Plans are to acquire the bolt ons as I get closer to the build, to maximize the new engine without changing too many things at once.
I have built several chevy SB engines, both carb and FI and am taking this slow. Saw a buddy of mine change everything in one build and he never got it running right.
I have a plan based on the collective wisdom of all you guys that have already laid out the cash and skinned your nuckles. I was just thinking (never a good thing) about "a little more" until then. Sounds like I should just relax until I pull the engine/trans in the future.
Thanks for all the input, I appreciate it.
